Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TDVL) for Undocumented Immigrants

Under Illinois law, immigrants in unlawful status who are not eligible for a Social Security number may apply for a Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL).

To apply, you must make an appointment at one of the designated Illinois Secretary of State facilities.

At the time of the appointment, you must provide documentation verifying the following:

At the appointment, you will be required to complete a Verification of Residency Form, and pass the vision, written and road exams. Your TDVL will be printed and mailed to you after your application is verified by the Secretary of State.
