How Long Does It Take to Remove Conditions on My Green Card?

In a previous article, “What Happens after I File My I-751 Petition?”, we discussed the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) process for adjudicating I-751 petitions.

How long are the USIC processing times for Form I-751?

Previously, the process was relatively quick and in most cases would take less than one year. As such, applicants were provided with a receipt of filing, providing for a 12 month extension of their conditional green card, to allow them to remain in the U.S. and maintain work and travel authorization, while their application was being processed.

As of 2018, USCIS processing times for Form I-751 have been taking longer. Due to this increased processing times, the extension provided by the I-751 receipt of filing has been increased from 12 to 18 months.

After 18 months, if your I-751 is still pending at USCIS, you will need to get a stamp in your passport from a local USCIS office as proof of your continued work and travel authorization.
