Are Immigrants an Economic Boon or Burden?
Two studies in two different states have analyzed whether immigrants (both documented and undocumented) have a positive or negative impact on the economy. Among other results from the Kansas- and Missouri-based studies, researchers found the following:
- Some industries would have trouble filling jobs without immigrant labor.
- Undocumented immigrants pay for the state services they use with the tax revenue directly generated by their jobs.
- Every job held by an immigrant, on average, equates to nearly one additional job created in Kansas and more than one job in Missouri.
As our politicians continue to reform immigration policy, it’s important they have factual data to form their opinions and to write these new laws. So we applaud this effort in Missouri and Kansas and hope that other studies throughout the United States take place. It’s also important for immigrants to understand their rights and responsibilities. Please contact The Law Offices of Azita M.
