Do I have to fight an order of protection?

You must obey the order of protection and stay away from the individual who has obtained a protective order against you, but if you decide you don’t want to fight the order of protection, you do not have to appear for the hearing.

Keep in mind that if you fail to appear in court, the judge will only hear your accuser’s side of the story. Without hearing your side of the story, the judge may have no reason to doubt the complainant’s accusations against you. This would more than likely result in the judge entering a more permanent order of protection against you for up to two years.
