Allocation of parental responsibilities, previously called, “child custody”, establishes parental decision-making rights with respect to your children’s medical care, education, religion and extracurricular activities. It also establishes a parenting time schedule, previously known as, “visitation” with your children under the age of 18.
Parental decision-making rights with respect to the above matters can be allocated to either one or both of the parents. Parenting time is the time that a child spends with each parent. Unless the court determines that a child is not safe in the care of one of the parents, typically both parents will have the right to spend time with their children, but it must be decided how this time is shared.
