How would my abuser know to stay away from me?

Once a judge enters the order of protection, it is served on your abuser with a notice advising him/her of the upcoming court heating. The order of protection orders your abuser to stay away from you and refrain from taking any actions that would hurt you until you both appear for a full hearing in front of the judge. After the judge hears both sides of the story, the Court will then decide whether to end the order of protection, extend it or issue a permanent order for up to two years.
